Practical information for your trip

Chefchaouen is located in northern Morocco, nestled in the green mountain landscape of the Rif Mountains.

The city is situated between Tangier and Fez and is easily accessible from both cities. Due to its elevated position in the mountains, Chefchaouen differs significantly from the drier regions in the south of the country in terms of climate and landscape.

The best time to visit Chefchaouen is during spring and fall. From April to May, temperatures are pleasantly mild, the Rif Mountains are in bloom, and conditions are ideal for exploring the blue-painted medina or taking short hikes in the surrounding hills.

In September and October, the weather remains mild, with less intense heat than in midsummer, and the city is usually quieter than during the peak holiday months.

While summer (June to August) can be sunny and lively, it is often very hot and more crowded. The steep alleys of the medina can become exhausting during the midday heat, so visiting in the morning or late afternoon is recommended.

Chefchaouen is a compact and very easy-to-navigate city that can be explored at a leisurely pace on foot. The medina, with its iconic blue-washed alleys, is not large, but it is full of atmosphere, small details, and photogenic corners.

Two days are perfectly sufficient for a visit: one day is ideal for discovering the old town at your leisure, strolling through the alleys, visiting local cafés, and soaking up the special atmosphere of the city. The second day offers space for relaxed moments, short trips to the surrounding nature of the Rif Mountains, or a visit to a viewpoint to watch the sunset.
