Practical information for your trip
We recommend spending around 5–7 days in Lombok to explore its beaches, traditional villages, waterfalls and inland landscapes. Allow more time if you want to trek Mount Rinjani or explore the surrounding islands.
Highlights include the beaches around Kuta in southern Lombok, traditional Sasak villages, the waterfalls near Senaru, the rice fields of Tetebatu, snorkelling at Secret Gili or Gili islands and the spectacular Mount Rinjani.
While a private driver is certainly very convenient, ride-hailing services like Grab or Gojek are only available to a limited extent on Lombok. That’s why we recommend exploring the island by scooter. Compared to Bali, Lombok is even less touristy, and riding there is relaxed in many places. This gives you the flexibility to reach stunning coastlines, traditional villages, and the island’s lush interior. Since Lombok is quite hilly, we recommend a scooter with enough power—especially if there are two of you traveling together.
Lombok is known for its sea turtles, which you can encounter both around the Gili Islands and in lesser-known spots like the Secret Gilis to the south.
