Practical information for your trip

Three to five days are usually enough to get a first impression of the Engadin, depending on how active you want to be. In three days, you can explore highlights such as St. Moritz, the Maloja Pass and Lake Sils and Lake St. Moritz, and still have time for a short hike or a relaxing walk through the picturesque mountain landscape. If you plan five days, you can also discover the Lower Engadin with places such as Scuol or Guarda, go on leisurely panoramic hikes and enjoy the regional specialities at your leisure.

In Engadin, you can expect typical specialities that are strongly influenced by Alpine tradition. Particularly well-known is the Engadin nut cake, a rich, caramelised walnut tart that can be found in almost every café or bakery. Savoury dishes such as capuns, meat and spaetzle dumplings wrapped in chard leaves, and Bündnerfleisch, air-dried beef served thinly sliced as a snack or starter, are also popular.

Hearty cheese specialities are also typical of the region: Bündner mountain cheese goes well with fresh bread or polenta. In winter, you should also try local soups such as capunsoup or raclette, often accompanied by regional white wine or cider.

The Engadin is very family-friendly and offers lots of exciting activities for children, both indoors and outdoors. The focus is on nature experiences: children can splash around in clear mountain lakes such as Lake Sils, go on easy hikes through forests and across alpine meadows, or learn about nature and animals in the Alps in a playful way on the many themed trails.

In winter, the region is transformed into a true paradise for families: gentle ski slopes, children’s ski huts and toboggan runs in St. Moritz or Scuol make a stay here unforgettable for the little ones. But summer adventures such as mini golf, summer toboggan runs, cycling routes or visits to farms also provide plenty of variety.

In addition, there are numerous family-friendly cable cars, mountain railways and panoramic rides where children can travel safely and still enjoy spectacular views. The Engadin offers everything families need for a relaxing yet active holiday.
